Lucknow: Lucknow shuttler Sonali Singh teamed up with Ritika Thaker to clinch the women’s doubles title at the Kampala International 2026 in Uganda.
Playing at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, the Indian pair defeated compatriots Ishita Negi and Akshita Manral in straight games, winning the final 21-16, 21-17.
Sonali and Ritika made an attacking start and maintained their composure during long rallies. The pair established early leads in both games and converted crucial points consistently to keep their opponents under pressure. Ishita and Akshita attempted to fight back, but the Indian duo limited their opportunities and closed out the match in two games.
For Sonali, who trains at the BBD Badminton Academy in Lucknow, the Kampala triumph marks a significant achievement on the international circuit. Her performance reflected the work put into technical development, shot selection and different aspects of her game during regular training.
The Kampala International was organised under the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Future Series. Players from several countries competed across singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories, with ranking points and prize money at stake.
The title adds another international achievement to Sonali’s growing career and brings recognition to Lucknow’s badminton community and the BBD Badminton Academy.
